Chrystal Martin Thornton is the founding member of C. Martin Law, P.A. She has a vast amount of legal experience in family law and personal injury matters. She takes a sensitive, yet professional approach to guiding her clients through the toughest of legal matters. Ms. Thornton is a dedicated attorney who practices with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. Ms. Thornton was born in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1986, Ms. Thornton moved to Lakeland, Florida where she attended local schools in the Polk County area. In 2002, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major concentration of study in Economics from the prestigious Duke University. In 2005, Ms. Thornton obtained her law degree from The Florida State University College of Law. While at The Florida State University College of Law, Ms. Thornton participated in the legal study abroad program at Oxford University in Oxford, England during the summer of 2003.
Upon completion of her legal studies, Ms. Thornton was admitted to the Florida Bar in September 2005 and obtained an associate position with Rafool & Rafool, P.A. in Polk County, Florida. Before opening C. Martin Law, P.A. in 2010, Mrs. Thornton was an associate attorney at Saunders Law Group from 2006 through 2010, practicing in the areas of family law, personal injury, medical malpractice and commercial litigation.
Ms. Thornton is an active member of the legal community. She is a member of the Florida Bar Board of Governors Young Lawyer’s Division—representing the issues of the young lawyers across the State of Florida. She is also a member of the Virgil Hawkins Bar Association, Inc.—an association that focuses on educating, promoting and providing a legal voice for the underrepresented members of the Polk County community. Ms. Thornton served as Vice-President of the Virgil Hawkins Bar Association, Inc. from 2009 to 2011. She is also a Board Member and Secretary of the Polk County Trial Lawyer’s Association and a member of the Willson American Inn of Court. The Willson American Inn of Court is an organization that promotes professionalism and legal ethics of the bench and bar by providing attorneys the opportunity to study side-by-side with highly experienced judges and lawyers in the Polk County legal community. Mrs. Thornton also provides pro-bono legal services through the Florida Rural Legal Services.
